I cling to You
because I want
Life, desire You
because You are Life
and the world at times
unintentionally heaves
me up to the heavens
and I can barely touch
Your face, but wraps
its inkiness about my
Soul, and drags me
back down to earth
to only begin this
cycle anew.

tears, when they make
paths down porous
cheeks, wash away more
than just grime and grease
but clean away a little
bit of soot on the soul

You shove doubt into
my head like it were
a wedge placed into
an axed tree to split
the body faster
I have moments where

I am

small, beetle-size
and scurrying across
the flagstones on the
walkway of life;
scuttling across pavement
to avoid gargantuan feet,
flying debris and haphazardly
placed bodies

I have moments where

I am

tall, giant-like
and striding across
the landscape of time
on stilts of prayer;
focused on the horizon
while my Companion and I
step over trees, straddle
hills and jump mountains
May I live my life
in such a way
that my actions
speak volumes
and
replace the
words from my lips

And for a moment
you have profoundly
changed my view of
white picket fences
and manicured lawns,
encompassing house
and supposedly home

In that minute
you took the presence
of yourself and shoveled
off entire collections
of life, love and happiness
on the bookshelves of me

For that time and space,
you took my glass globed
world and swirled yourself
throughout its
peaceful realm

And for now,
I place you in
the shadow of my
Father's presence, in the
fullness of His embrace
and on Him
lean heavy,
lean low.

Grow; as seeds spread
in, out, and down into
the richness of life
beneath our selves;
we stretch up, touch
the Son and twine
our souls deeper
into Him and
one another

I can't help myself;
the thought of you
arises within me
and it becomes
second nature to reach
out in whatever form
to say, hi, I'm here,
are you thinking of
me?

Impatience is at the
root of me, plants
systems throughout
this body and into
bone, and sends out
her leaves, her fruit
into spaces my
analytical self
runs up, down and
through

Yet the Gardener
comes to visit me,
At early dawn, at late dusk,
To care for this aging
greenery, talks, murmurs
up through His lusty throat
pure provoking waters
and weeds away
Impatience from
my bones.
